Having recently received another bargain offer on an Inspiron laptop that is only fairly decent, I asked myself where the REAL deals are for those in the market for a dependable notebook computer. How about taking a page out of the desktop world and exploring refurb laptops (aka “refurbished”)? These are perfect for consumers who don’t mind a machine that’s a model year back or perhaps have a scratch or dent.
Refurbished Laptops
Here are a few quick recommendations:
- HP DV6449US-RB Pavilion - AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor, 1.80GHz, 15.4″ w/ Vista for $619.00
- Dell Pentium M 1.4GHz Laptop - 14.1″, Win XP from $339.00
- ThinkPad T40 (Off Lease) - Pentium M 1.6GHz, 14.1″ XGA from $412.00
While you may have to upgrade the memory or put up with a little scuff here and there, these provide significant savings over the same computer bought brand new. Many times, these laptops even come with a full warranty. That’s what refurb is all about - buying the features, not the flash.

I love refurbs! It is a great way to save and still get a decent machine. One of my favorite places to get refurbs is geeks.com, and also tiger direct.
