Refurb Laptops?

Posted in Notebooks, Refurbished, WinTel by admin on November 28, 2007.

Having recently received another bargain offer on an Inspiron laptop that is only fairly decent, I asked myself where the REAL deals are for those in the market for a dependable notebook computer. How about taking a page out of the desktop world and exploring refurb laptops (aka “refurbished”)? These are perfect for consumers who don’t mind a machine that’s a model year back or perhaps have a scratch or dent.

Refurbished Laptops

Here are a few quick recommendations:

While you may have to upgrade the memory or put up with a little scuff here and there, these provide significant savings over the same computer bought brand new. Many times, these laptops even come with a full warranty. That’s what refurb is all about - buying the features, not the flash.

Sony VAIO 15.4" Notebook for Under $1000

Posted in Notebooks, WinTel by admin on July 13, 2007.

Wow. I recently bought a new notebook and knew a few things: I wanted a 15.4" screen, an Intel processor, 1 GB of RAM and a brand I could trust. Sony was one of the top brands on my list. Why? Their reputation for quality electronics is good enough, but their laptops in particular are known for having bright displays, being light weight and include lots of media-centered features. Oh, did I mention that I wouldn’t pay more than $1000?

Enter the Sony VAIO VGN-N320E Notebook. I have seen prices under $830 for this laptop. It features:

  • Windows Vista Home Premium
  • 15.4-inch LCD screen
  • 1.60 GHz Intel Core Duo T2060 processor
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 120 GB hard drive
  • DVDRW Drive

Deal! Yes, it’s also got WiFi, Firewire, a few USB ports too. And this isn’t a refurbished notebook, the price is available on brand new, factory sealed package models. With 6 reviews yielding a rating of 3.5, it’s a good bargain for good features.
